Maren Burg employee spotlight

Maren Burg is an architect currently working on the new middle and elementary schools in the Oshkosh School District. She is involved in all parts of the architectural design process, from space planning through construction. She collaborates with the rest of the Oshkosh project team to produce sets of construction documents.

Construction runs in Maren’s family: her father is a project manager, her grandparents use to own a drywall company, and multiple uncles and aunts are or were architects, engineers, or construction workers. When she was young, she would help her dad with his work whenever he brought it home. She would also build houses for her Barbies, create Lego cities, and by age ten, Maren was drawing houses on graph paper.

She went on to take architecture and interior design classes in high school before pursuing an undergraduate degree in interior architecture from UW-Stevens Point and a Master of Architecture from UW-Milwaukee.

Maren’s favorite moments at work are when she and her team reveal design ideas to the clients for the first time, and she gets to witness the excitement on their faces.

She loves that she can design for other people, especially children, whose learning experiences are enhanced because of her work. Although Maren doesn’t have children of her own yet, she is inspired by the idea that one day they will be able to say, “My mom is an architect!”

Outside of the office, you might find Maren working on house projects, crafting, or going on walks with her husband and rescue-dog Radar. Maren is an avid skier and a big fan of all things Disney. She also loves to travel and explore new places. So far, she has been to 21 countries and 25 states and is always on the lookout for a new location to discover.
