Shepherd of the Hills Parish emphasizes the rich tradition of four rural parishes that have come together as one to continue the strong Roman Catholic presence in the area. The first phase included: the worship space and narthex to accommodate 750 parishioners, expandable to 1,000; classroom space for 100 students; a social hall with seating for 300, and school and parish offices.
The massing of the building has been broken down to define the different functions of the parish community with the worship space being the most prominent form. The site plan is designed to be an extension of the worship space with ample opportunity for outdoor gardens and areas for reflection. As the parishioners and guests arrive at the site, there are visual cues leading them in a processional manner to gather with the community for prayer.
