The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire
Davies Center Replacement
Eau Claire, Wisconsin

Bray Associates Architects, in collaboration with Burt Hill, recently completed programming and is early in the schematic design phase for the new University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Student Center Project. The preliminary design is inspired by nature surrounding the Eau Claire Campus such as the Chippewa River, the North Woods, the stone formations, and The Little Niagara flowing east to west. The architectural style can be considered as a "Midwest Modern Lodge" and is a canoe shaped building pointing towards the river.

The new design is based on the idea of a campus gateway that will have the students circulating through the union. The design creates a green open quad north of the building.

This design is also based on the future removal of the existing Davies Center and by doing so, the students, staff, and visitors will enjoy the quad that may include an amphitheatre at the northwest corner of the green space. In addition, the open space incorporates The Little Niagara as a natural feature that will enhance the outdoor appeal of the lower campus.

This redevelopment project will provide space for retail dining services, meeting rooms, ballrooms, event rooms, lounges, retail operations, student organizations, student center administration offices and storage. The estimated project cost is $48.8 million and is to be completed by 2012.
