De Forest Area Public Library
De Forest, Wisconsin

The new library, acting as a catalyst for a revitalized downtown area, was designed to reflect the Norwegian heritage of the community. The building is a contemporary interpretation of the unique “stavkirkers” or stave churches built throughout Norway over 1,000 years ago. The natural stone base, heavy timber structure and steep pitched roof are reminiscent of these ancient buildings while large, energy efficient glass walls lend a distinct, contemporary feel to the facility.

The main floor includes the circulation desk, young adult section with café seating, children's library with story/craft room, administrative offices and support spaces, historical society gallery and archives, and the A/V and reference collections. The upper floor houses reading and study areas along with the fiction and non fiction collections. The lower floor includes the Village board room, large conferen.ce room, computer lab, and additional storage space.

Size: 35,000 square feet
