University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, W.R. Davies Student Center

Bray Architects in collaboration with Stantec (then Burt Hill) designed this new student center inspired by the natural landscape surrounding the Eau Claire Campus. The Chippewa River, the north woods, the stone formations and the Little Niagara flowing east to west. All aspects of the natural surroundings informed the sensitive design of this canoe shaped structure that points toward the river. The architectural style can be considered “Midwest Modern Lodge.”

Surrounding green space was created with the demolition of the existing Davies Center, providing an outdoor quad and amphitheater in the northwest corner of the green space. The park-like setting incorporates the Little Niagara as a natural feature that enhances the outdoor appeal of the lower campus.

The Student Center offers space for retail dining services, meeting rooms, ballrooms, event rooms, retail operations, student organizations, student center administration offices and storage.
