Bray Participates In The First Ever
Milwaukee Makeover Project

Milwaukee, WI / June, 2010 Bray Architects, led by Michael Hacker, LEED AP, was honored to participate in the first ever Milwaukee Makeover project which was sponsored by the City of Milwaukee and Greater Milwaukee Foundation as part of the Healthy Neighborhood Initiative.

Milwaukee Makeover

The vision of the Milwaukee Makeover Project is to achieve high quality permanent improvements on facades of homes within the nine Milwaukee Healthy Neighborhood Initiative neighborhoods. The project matched local design professionals with homeowners to discuss the architectural character and create imagery to portray the homeowner’s vision. Homeowners then work closely with the City of Milwaukee to obtain funding to make these visions reality.

This one and a half story, post-world war II era, home is one of many of its kind found in the Thurston Woods neighborhood on Milwaukee’s north side. As the home begins to show its 70 years of age, the homeowner is looking to make a series of aesthetic and safety upgrades to the home’s façade. These projects include items such as a roof replacement, constructing new entry patios on both the front and side of the home; of which include stamped concrete steps, metal handrails and awnings, new light fixtures, landscaping as well as a new mailbox and house number. The homeowner spoke passionately about creating a space to sit and talk with her neighbors while watching her young daughter play in the front yard. As designed these changes aim to provide such a space while strengthening the home’s architectural character, providing some much needed safety repairs and supporting the homeowner’s sense of pride in her home.

This effort represents Bray Architects’ continued commitment to Southeastern Wisconsin.
